Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board
Minutes
December 4, 2008
draft to City Council by March 2009, so the plan can be incorporated into the
bidding process for 2009 maintenance contracts. In order to endorse the draft
and produce a joint recommendation with OSAB, HFAB will attend the regular
meeting of OSAB on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
Arboretum -Pergola construction has been completed. Discussion of stone
veneer to cover caissons, and connecting to a low retaining wall to prevent
erosion around the pergola. Chris is looking into wood preservatives to protect
the posts and discourage grafitti. He would like to eventually put holiday lights on
the pergola and some of the trees, and will look into bids to run electricity to the
arboretum from the inline skating rink.
The 501 c (3) is complete.
Tree identification signs are in progress.
The xeric gardens have been cleaned up.
Cottonwood removal at Cottonwood Park will take place in December. Chris is
considering some form of commemorative plaque made from a piece of the tree.
Website development - No report.
Horticulture presentations at Library -Discussion of possible presentations by
CSU Extension staff, either at the library or elsewhere. Theresa stated that Carol
O'Meara, other staff members, or master gardeners are available to make
presentations.
Discussion Items for Next Meeting (Feb 2009) -Plans for Arbor Day (third
Friday in April.) Suggestion was made to discuss with OSAB in January the
possibility of a joint HFAB/OSAB activity for Earth Day and Arbor Day.
Adjourn -The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 pm.
