LCity,f
Louisville
Parks & Recreation
Memorandum
To: Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board
From: Dean Johnson, Parks Superintendent
Date: 11/28/18
Subject: Planning Discussion on Goals and Objectives for 2019
Purpose:
The purpose of this agenda item is to gather input from all PPLAB members as to possible goals
and objectives for 2019.
Background:
Throughout the course of a year, the monthly PPLAB meeting time is primarily spent on items
such as: development review, landscape review, policy discussions, and input on capital
projects. The ambitious capital improvement program recently approved by City Council will
significantly fill in the meeting agendas for upcoming PPLAB meetings and creates a full work
program for staff.
However, staff is interested to know if PPLAB has any additional goals or objectives or priorities
for 2019. Understanding PPLAB interests will help staff tentatively plan monthly agenda items.
For example, past goals and objectives have and could be: educational events, scorecard
development, landscape ordinance review, additional policies or maintenance practices to
review, etc.
Staff has provided examples, highlighted in yellow on the Tentative PPLAB Calendar, that help
illustrate how the goals, work plan and prioritization would help establish an approach to
scheduling the work of the board and staff throughout the year. The board's input at the
December meeting will help staff fill out the tentative advanced agenda that would be included
in the January packet.
Next Steps:
Based on PPLAB input and feedback staff will work with the PPLAB chair to present draft 2019
goals to be finalized at the January meeting.
14
