LCityoj
Louisville
City Manager's Office
Memorandum
To: Louisville Sustainability Advisory Board
From: Katie Baum, Sustainability Specialist
Date: April 17, 2019
Re: Discussion Item 10: Community Events/Sustainability Series
Summary
In 2017, the City kicked off the first year of the Sustainability Series, an outreach event series that aims
at increasing the public's awareness of sustainability and City -related initiatives. Approximately 150
attendees participating in four events that took place that fall. In 2018, staff continued the
Sustainability Series, however attendance declined with only 60 attendees participating.
Staff and LSAB identified possible reasons for the decline:
1. Sophomore slump as the initial excitement of the first year wore off — most programs
experience decline after the first year.
2. Communications planning
3. Incentives for participation
Staff has begun planning for the 2019 year. Two events are already in the beginning planning stages:
1. Bike Maintenance 101 in June
2. How to Ride: Public Transit in September
Next Steps
Staff seeks input on events ideas, formatting, communications/marketing and potential LSAB support.
