Thank you
Betty Solek
1101 N Franklin Ave
LOUISVILLE
Email sent to council members:
"I noticed a contractor spraying herbicide on the city medians along S Boulder Rd this week.
Why does the city continue to use this practice? I do not observe "noxious" weeds on these strips
of landscape and the medians are trimmed and mowed very aggressively. Why is the herbicide
being used? The medians are designed to "shed" water, both rain and irrigation water. The water
coming off the medians then travels over the streets to the city's storm sewer system and then
very efficiently delivered to the streams.
The city storm sewer rates were raised again this year. Thus, we are paying more for storm sewer
infrastructure and education about protecting our streams from pollutants delivered by the storm
sewer. It is frustrating to see the city continue to use the practice of herbicide spraying on the
medians since this is the sort of practice which creates pollutants for the streams in our area."
6
