RESOLUTION NO. 09 <br />SERIES 2017 <br />A RESOLUTION MAKING FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING THE <br />LANDMARK DESIGNATION FOR A HISTORICAL SIGN LOCATED ON 640 MAIN <br />STREET <br />WHEREAS, there has been submitted to the Louisville Historic Preservation <br />Commission (HPC) an application requesting a landmark eligibility determination for a <br />historical sign located on 640 Main Street, on property legally described as Lots 11 and 12, <br />Block 4, Town of Louisville, together with a portion of Lot 10, Block 4, Town of Louisville <br />City of Louisville, State of Colorado; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Staff and the HPC have reviewed the application and found it <br />to be in compliance with Chapter 15.36 of the Louisville Municipal Code, including Section <br />15.36.050.A, establishing criteria for landmark designation; and <br />WHEREAS, the HPC has held a properly noticed public hearing on the proposed <br />landmark application; and <br />WHEREAS, the Sign at 640 Main Street (Blue Parrot Sign) has social significance <br />because it exemplifies the cultural and social heritage of Louisville's Italian community, and <br />the popular Blue Parrot restaurant; and <br />WHEREAS, the Sign at 640 Main Street has architectural significance because it is <br />representative of neon signs popular in the 1950s, and it represents the Colacci family and <br />the Blue Parrot restaurant which operated in that location for 98 years; and <br />WHEREAS, the HPC finds that these and other characteristics specific to the Blue <br />Parrot Sign have social and architectural significance as described in Section 15.36.050.A <br />of the Louisville Municipal Code; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE, COLORADO: <br />The application to landmark the Blue Parrot Sign be approved for the following <br />reasons: <br />1. Architectural integrity of the overall form and neon tube lettering. <br />2. Association with the Blue Parrot Restaurant. <br />WITH THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS: <br />1. The sign at 640 Main Street shall remain in its current location, provided that <br />the existing structure at 640 Main Street remains in its current form; <br />2. If the existing structure at 640 Main Street is demolished or undergoes a <br />major renovation, the sign shall be reinstalled generally in its current <br />location prominently displayed at the intersection of Main St. and Pine St. <br />An applicant may propose an alternative location on an exterior wall <br />fronting either Main Street or Pine Street as long as the sign is <br />prominently oriented toward either Main Street or Pine Street and subject <br />to approval by the Historic Preservation Commission through an Alteration <br />Certificate. <br />PASSED AN 1 ADOPTED th s 16th day of October 2017. <br />Lynda Haley, Chairperson <br />1 <br />CAW° at da SQn , v 1(9_ Gr\a\ c <br />
