City Council Business Retention & Development Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />October 6, 2008 <br />Page 4 of 4 <br /> <br />? <br /> Ms. Draper said that she would like to see a consistent budget from the City and that <br />currently they cannot give funds for ballot or legislative issues and would like that to <br />change. <br />? <br /> Ms. Hartbarger said that she would like to have more time to connect with <br />businesses <br />? <br /> Mr. Cody said that generally his organization works very well and wouldn’t change it <br />but if he had to list something it would be more resources. <br />? <br /> Mr. Bobrick said that he would like to end the fear that the public has of government <br />when it comes to development. That cities need to understand that delays cost <br />money to a developer and that projects would be pushed faster to save money <br />? <br /> Mr. Smithers said he would like more resources to be able to give focus on all areas. <br /> <br />Ms. Hogan asked if any BRaD members had questions for the panel. <br /> <br />Mr. Lathrop asked how they moved from economic development to implementation. <br /> <br />Mr. Bobrick said that they did it through staff partnership. Ms. Hartbarger through mutual <br />respect with staff and internal communication so that concerns about a potential project <br />was shared before implementation. Ms. Draper said that they generally just run <br />interference. <br /> <br />City Manager Malcolm Fleming asked what percentage was used for recruiting vs. <br />expanding businesses. Mr. Cody, Mr. Smithers, Ms. Hartbarger stated it was about <br />equal. Mr. Bobrick said that they have just started doing retention. Ms. Draper said it was <br />about 90% retention and 10% recruitment. <br /> <br /> <br />ADJOURN <br />The meeting adjourned at 9:30 AM. <br /> <br />
