Sisk responded that last Wednesday, Bill Johnson the principal at the new high school indicated that
he was going to go around and talk to seventh and eighth graders and get their thoughts as to
mascots. That was as a result of a suggestion made by the committee. The colors will still be within
the purview of the school principle.

Howard was extremely disappointed and "miffed" that the community that will be maintaining the
roads, providing police protection, providing water and sewer, and most of the students, will not have
the high school named Louisville High School. He did not understand why a half dozen phone calls
can stop this, when Sisk got together a 500 name petition, and City Council sent a letter supporting
the name Louisville High School. He did not understand how the naming of a high school that is in
the bounds of this community, that this community fought hard to get, will not be Louisville High
School. He felt the worst thing was that the community had been slighted after all the hard work so
many people had put into this, that the word of a few people take precedence over this community.

REGULAR BUSINESS

RESOLUTION NO. 44, SERIES 1997 - AMENDMENT OF A FINAL PUD DEVELOPMENT
PLAN FOR OHMEDA, INC., FOR A BUILDING MOUNTED SIGN

Paul Wood, Planning Director, stated that the applicant was requesting the amendment to install, on
their south building elevation, a wall mounted non-illuminated wall sign. They requested 5' high
letters with a length of 16.5', resulting in an area of 82 s.f. Planning Commission's recommendation
was to go with 4' high letters with a maximum of square footage of 60 s.f., based upon its visibility
from Centennial Parkway, while not creating a negative impact on the building architecture.

Davidson called for the applicant's presentation.

Leslie Karnauskas, Controller at Ohmeda, gave a background on Ohmeda. Ohmeda is a medical
equipment manufacturer, an international corporation owned by BLC Group in the U.K. The
products they manufacture and market out of the Louisville building go everywhere in the word,
about half of them outside of the U.S. They had been in the building since 1987 on a 10 year lease.
They are in the process of renewing that lease for seven years. They employ approximately 400
regular and temporary employees with a payroll of over $13 million annually, hence one of Boulder
County's largest employers.

Amy Ehlert, Marketing Communications Manager at Ohmeda, stated that they needed the sign
because their property does not sit on a thru street, so visitors, prospective employees, customers,
delivery services, and vendors find it difficult to locate the building.

Davidson called for Council comments or questions.

Keany asked if the sign on the retaining wall would remain?

3
