Library Board of Trustees
Minutes
NOVEMBER 20, 2008
B.Status of Communications to Town of Superior Residents with Louisville Library
Cards
A two-page letter was mailed on November 14 to almost 3,500 Superior residents. The
letter went out with Malcolm’s signature on the City Manager’s Office letterhead.
An FAQ that Karen has prepared was distributed. Trustee comments were noted and will
be incorporated. The FAQ will be printed as a handout and will be posted to the Library
website. Informational posters will also be displayed in the Library.
C.Staff Training to Prepare for Cancellation of Superior Residents’ Louisville Library
Cards
At a recent meeting, Library staff shared many ideas about how to communicate with
patrons and support one another. Karen and Lisa Merly will prepare some scripts for
staff to help with some of the most anticipated questions or issues.
Lisa Merly has arranged customer service training for staff, which is scheduled for
December 9. There will be two, 2-hour sessions and trustees are invited to attend.
VIII.New Business
A.Revise Service Policy Regarding Library Cards
After a brief discussion, the Board unanimously approved an update to language
regarding use of the Library.
In concert with this discussion, the Board reviewed informational material from Denver
Public Library regarding privacy of user information. The Board unanimously agreed to
continue this discussion to the January meeting.
B.Retirement of Board Members and New Members to be Added
Members with expiring terms are Mary Seifert, Lisa Kahn, Meredith Davis, and Eileen
Patrick. Channah Horst resigned in 2008, with more than two years remaining in her
term. This leaves two members, Alicia and Nisa, of the seven-member board.
Eileen Patrick and Meredith Davis requested to serve an additional five-year term.
IX.Director’s Report
A.Decisions by Other Libraries Concerning Borrowing Privileges for Superior Residents
Anne reported that Broomfield and Boulder are still trying to determine what they will
do, and Lafayette has indicated they will require a user fee.
B.Statistics
Anne noted that the year-to-date circulation has increased by 13% over the same time
period last year.
