Pursuant to City of Louisville
Ordinance the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC)has the authority to review any remodel of a building over the age of 50
years that includes the demolition of more than 50%of the roof line to determine if the building may be of historical value. Boulder
County Assessor's Records show that the building in question at 1237 LaFarge Avenue was built in 1948.
As established by ordinance, a Commission committee has twenty-one (21)days from the date the application was referred to the
HPC (October 15)to review your request and inspect the building. The Commission committee then has an additional sixteen (9)
days (October 24)to make a determination as to the building's historic significance.
If a member of the committee determines that there is probable cause to believe that the building may be eligible for designation
as an individual landmark, the issuance of the permit shall be stayed for up to sixty(60)days from the date it was referred to the
HPC (November 23), and the permit shall be forwarded to the entire Commission for a public hearing.
At that public hearing, if the Commission feels the building is of sufficient historical value to the community, the Commission has
the authority to stay the application for up to one hundred eighty(180)days from the date the application was referred to the HPC.
A copy of this determination, including the reasons why the building may be eligible for designation, shall be provided to the
property owner within fourteen days (14)of the determination.
The purpose of the review is to prevent the loss of buildings that may have historical or architectural significance to the community
and to provide the time necessary to initiate designation as an individual landmark or to consider alternatives for the building.
I have attached additional information for your review and will keep you apprised of the process as the Commission moves
forward. Please contact me at 303.335.4536 or muthm@ci.louisville.co.us should you have any questions.
Sincerely,
MERIDY77HMUTH
PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER
CITY OF LOUISVILLE
303.3 35.4536
303.335.4550 FAX
mutlun@ci.louisvillaco.us
nai'ai'nnS
