The City of Louisville Municipal Code <br />section 3.04.030 states that the City Council shall adopt an annual budget for each fiscal year in <br />accordance with the procedure set forth in the Local Government Budget Law of Colorado, <br />(Code 1962, 6.2; Code 1977, 3.04.020). <br />Goals & Priorities <br />The Colorado lifestyle, small town aimbiance, great schools, diverse workforce and housing in <br />friendly neighborhoods make Louisville a great place to live, work, play and learn. The rich <br />heritage of values and traditions found in Louisville forms the basis for a thriving modern <br />community with a high quality of life. The City contributes significantly to that quality of life by <br />providing important services and facilities. Within the constraints of limited funding, personnel <br />and time, the priorities for the 2008 budget are as follows: <br />• Remain accessible and accountalble to citizens and adaptable to changing circumstances. <br />• Implement efficiency measures to maintain current service levels and ensure the long-term <br />fiscal health of the City. <br />• Strengthen Louisville's economy through proactive business retention, development and <br />recruitment efforts. <br />• Accurately reflect Conservation l"rust Fund expenditures for parks and open space related <br />activities. <br />• Increase resources devoted to maintaining and safeguarding the City's significant <br />investment in land and facilities. <br />• Boost funding for library material:; and customer support and for cultural activities. <br />• Ensure competitive compensation for employees to reduce costs associated with staff <br />turnover. <br />• Revise our approach to providing employee medical coverage to more effectively promote <br />wellness and consumer awareness and, over the long run, reduce the cost of medical <br />coverage. <br />The 2008 budget is based on input from numerous sources, including public involvement at City <br />Council meetings and study sessions, feedback from the City's various Boards and <br />Commissions, information from previous citizen surveys, staff recommendations and continuous <br />interaction with the public throughoult the current year during Ward meetings, the Mayor's "Chat <br />with Chuck", and numerous City events. <br />The City's budget is the most significant policy considered by the Louisville City Council each <br />year; it establishes the City's prioritiies and provides funding to achieve those priorities.
