LIBRARY & MUSEUM NEWS
2019 'ON THE SAME PAGE' BOOK ANNOUNCED
The Last Cowboys: A Pioneer
Family in the New West, by
John Branch
This is a grand and compelling
work of reporting that, like Buzz
Bissinger's Friday Night Lights,
offers deep insight into Ameri-
can ritual and tradition. And in
telling the Wright family's story,
from branding days to rodeo nights to annual Christmas
gatherings, Branch captures something vital of the grit, de-
termination, and integrity that fuel the American Dream. An
unforgettable book by one of the finest reporters of our time,
The Last Cowboys is a moving tribute to an American way of
life.
LOUISVILLE PUBLIC
LIBRARY
GO ANYWHERE FROM HERE
"This is a smart portrayal of a way of life that's slipping
away even in the rural West."— Kirk Siegler, correspondent,
National Desk. We asked Renee Gurganus, President of
the Library Board of Trustees, to tell us a little about what
she is reading.
What is the best book you've read recently?
Definitely, The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey. It's one
of the more compelling dystopias I've read in a while.
What did you love about it?
The story line was gripping; it certainly kept me on my toes,
but I think my favorite part was the character development.
The author did a fantastic job juggling several points of view,
allowing you to get inside the characters' heads and under-
stand their motivations. Plus, there were some interesting
science-y bits thrown in that I enjoyed.
What's on your list to read next?
My list is never ending! I'm currently reading Why We Sleep
by Matthew Walker, and I'm eagerly awaiting the release of
Margaret Atwood's The Testaments.
50 BOOKS IN FIRST GRADE
We're kicking off a new reading initiative just for first graders.
Read 50 books during the school year to win prizes! Visit the
Children's desk for more information and to register. Sign-up
begins September 3 online and at the Library.
LOUISVILLE HISTORICAL MUSEUM
The Louisville Historical Museum is now on
Instagram!
