Planning Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />Page 21 of 23 <br />Hoefner asked if the Blue Parrot would need Commission approval to put up the same sign if <br />they were moving into town now instead of decades ago. <br />Ritchie confirmed that they would need to go through the same approval process. <br />Brauneis asked for more questions of staff. Seeing none, he invited the applicant to present. <br />Mark Oberholzer, 224 Hoover Avenue, stated that he did not have a statement but was willing to <br />answer any questions from the Commission <br />Hsu asked if the marquee bulbs used bare -bulb illumination and if they would be more efficient <br />than the illumination used on the original Blue Parrot sign. <br />Oberholzer confirmed that they would be bare -bulb and would be more efficient. <br />Brauneis asked for public comment. <br />Joan Riggins, 912 Lincoln Avenue in Louisville, stated that she had lived here all her life and it <br />had her dad's name on it. She wanted to save the sign and give it to the historic society so <br />people could come visit it and take pictures with it. She stated that the Blue Parrot was a big <br />part of Louisville. <br />Brauneis asked Riggins if she thought this application was headed in the right direction to <br />achieve her goals. <br />Riggins confirmed that she thought the application was headed in the right direction. <br />Jean Morgan, 1131 Spruce Street in Louisville, stated that the sign was hugely important to <br />Louisville. People across the country who know about the City of Louisville know about the sign. <br />She stated that it was iconic and needed to be saved and put in the museum. She approved of <br />the application for the new sign to let the tradition stand on the building and to preserve the old <br />sign. <br />Brauneis asked for staff closing statement. <br />Ritchie stated that the Commission was considering a PUD to allow the proposed sign to be <br />installed. <br />Brauneis invited the applicant to provide a closing statement and then closed the public hearing. <br />Brauneis asked for commissioner comments and deliberation. <br />Moline stated that he was in support. Rice stated that it looked like a perfect solution. Hsu stated <br />that it was a creative solution and he was in support. <br />Hoefner stated his support and added that it might be worth revisiting the sign guidelines in the <br />future if they would not allow today the construction of one of the most iconic signs in Louisville. <br />Brauneis added his support of the application. <br />Rice made a motion to approve Resolution 06, Series 2018, a request for a PUD Amendment to <br />implement an exterior sign program for the property at 640 Main Street. Hsu seconded. Roll call <br />vote. Passed unanimously. <br />
