City <br />Government <br />Governing Body <br />The City of Louisville is a <br />statutory city, regulated by state <br />statute. The city operates under <br />a council -administrator form of <br />government, whereby the city <br />constitutes the city's legislative <br />and governing body. The City <br />Council consists of six members. <br />Two members are elected from <br />each of the city's three wards to <br />serve staggered four year terms <br />of office. The city council <br />meetings, held the first and third <br />Tuesday of each month, are <br />presided over by the Mayor, who <br />is elected at large to serve a four <br />year term. The Mayor has all <br />the powers, rights, and <br />privileges of a council member. <br />Organization <br />The city council appoints the city <br />administrator to serve as the <br />chief administrative officer of the <br />city. The city administrator <br />serves at the pleasure of city <br />council, implements their <br />policies, provides organizational <br />leadership for addressing major <br />issues, direct business and <br />administrative procedures and <br />appoints department directors. <br />The city council also appoints a <br />city attorney, a municipal judge, <br />a prosecuting attorney, and <br />several separate boards and <br />commissions to administer the <br />operations of certain services. <br />Services <br />The city provides a full range of <br />local government services <br />including police protection, <br />municipal court services, street <br />and road maintenance, public <br />improvements, planning and <br />general administration, as well as: <br />Parks & Recreation - A variety of <br />recreation opportunities are <br />offered in Louisville. The <br />Recreation Center, a 57,000 <br />square foot multi -use center <br />features a 160-foot water slide, six <br />lane 25 meter pool, hot tub, steam <br />room and sauna, a gymnasium <br />and handball/ racquetball courts. <br />The Coal Creek Golf Course offers <br />everything for the golf enthusiast. <br />Trails are established for biking <br />and walking. A lighted ballfield <br />complex, containing four fields, <br />opened in 1996. In 1994, the <br />Louisville Recreation Department <br />received the Gold Medal Award, <br />the National Award for <br />Management Excellence in Parks <br />& Recreation. <br />Library - The Louisville Library <br />has a collection of over 61,000 <br />items that includes books, <br />videotapes, books on tape and <br />compact disc, compact discs, <br />DVDs, magazines. newspapers, <br />framed art prints and computer <br />software. <br />Water Treatment & Storage - <br />Average Consumption (Annual) <br />4.2 MGD; Peak Consumption <br />(Summer) 9.31 MGD; Current <br />Treatment Capacity (Net) 12 MGD; <br />Hardness of Water: 25 PPM. <br />Sewer Services - The sewage <br />facility is an extended aeration/ <br />activated sludge system with an <br />existing plant capacity of 3.4 MGD. <br />Treated discharge is direct flow to <br />Coal Creek. Existing average <br />annual flows are 2.01 MGD. <br />Ultimate projected plant capacity: <br />3.5 MGD. <br />3 <br />
