City Government Governing Body The City of Louisville is a statutory city, regulated by state statute. The city operates under a council -administrator form of government, whereby the city constitutes the city's legislative and governing body. The City Council consists of six members. Two members are elected from each of the city's three wards to serve staggered four year terms of office. The city council meetings, held the first and third Tuesday of each month, are presided over by the Mayor, who is elected at large to serve a four year term. The Mayor has all the powers, rights, and privileges of a council member. Organization The city council appoints the city administrator to serve as the chief administrative officer of the city. The city administrator serves at the pleasure of city council, implements their policies, provides organizational leadership for addressing major issues, direct business and administrative procedures and appoints department directors. The city council also appoints a city attorney, a municipal judge, a prosecuting attorney, and several separate boards and commissions to administer the operations of certain services. Services The city provides a full range of local government services including police protection, municipal court services, street and road maintenance, public improvements, planning and general administration, as well as: Parks & Recreation - A variety of recreation opportunities are offered in Louisville. The Recreation Center, a 57,000 square foot multi -use center features a 160-foot water slide, six lane 25 meter pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna, a gymnasium and handball/ racquetball courts. The Coal Creek Golf Course offers everything for the golf enthusiast. Trails are established for biking and walking. A lighted ballfield complex, containing four fields, opened in 1996. In 1994, the Louisville Recreation Department received the Gold Medal Award, the National Award for Management Excellence in Parks & Recreation. Library - The Louisville Library has a collection of over 61,000 items that includes books, videotapes, books on tape and compact disc, compact discs, DVDs, magazines. newspapers, framed art prints and computer software. Water Treatment & Storage - Average Consumption (Annual) 4.2 MGD; Peak Consumption (Summer) 9.31 MGD; Current Treatment Capacity (Net) 12 MGD; Hardness of Water: 25 PPM. Sewer Services - The sewage facility is an extended aeration/ activated sludge system with an existing plant capacity of 3.4 MGD. Treated discharge is direct flow to Coal Creek. Existing average annual flows are 2.01 MGD. Ultimate projected plant capacity: 3.5 MGD. 3
