General Information Louisville's colorful past has now transitioned into the age of technology. Manufacturing and high-tech industry have provided a solid economic base for Louisville, bringing with it stores, restaurants and other amenities for residents to enjoy. Facts The City of Louisville (City) is a Colorado Home Rule municipality with approximately 19,080 residents and 7.9 square miles within the municipal boundaries. The City, incorporated in 1882, lies in southeastern Boulder County roughly six miles east of the City of Boulder and 25 miles northwest of Denver. Climate Mean Temperatures: January - 29.5 degrees F, July - 72.0 degrees F, October - 52.6 degrees F. Days of Sunshine: 275/year Inches of Rain: 15.5/year Growing Season: 148 days. Because of its central location in the state, Louisville never experiences the extremes found in the mountains and plains of Colorado. The city has about 275 days of sunshine a year and when heavy snowfalls occur, they are usually followed by sunny, dry days. To Louisville residents, this means mild days throughout the year to play golf, catch a round of tennis, enjoy an afternoon in the park, or walk the many miles of trails throughout the city. Population and Household Growth Louisville is located in the western portion of the high -growth northern Denver Metro Area. Over the next 25 years, this area is expected to grow at twice the rate of the region as a whole. Much of this growth is projected to be in southwestern Weld County, Broomfield County and western Adams County. Louisville grew at a compound average annual growth rate of 3.1% between 1990 and 2003 - a considerably faster rate than either Boulder County and Denver Metropolitan Area over this period, but not as fast as the surrounding communities of Broomfield, Lafayette and Superior. Louisville's average household size declined from 2.68 to 2.61, while average household size in Boulder County and the Denver Metro Area increased. This is a reflection of Louisville's increasing average age population. Since the 2000 Census, Louisville's population has experienced very limited growth (0.4%) as most residential land supplies have not completed the entitlement process, although over 1,000 housing units are permissible under current zoning throughout the City. Age Distribution Louisville's age distribution skews slightly older than surrounding communities in Boulder County. Of particular significance, Louisville has a higher share of "baby boomers" (45 to 54 age group) moving toward retirement. There has been a decline in the number of children ages 5 to 14, as well as adults ages 35 to 44. Education Louisville has one of the most highly educated populations among surrounding communities. Overall, the higher educational levels in Boulder County reflect the area's high-tech business environment, as well as the influence of the state's largest university, the University of Colorado. Household Incomes Corresponding to education level, median household incomes in Louisville ($75,300) are the highest among Boulder County communities. Overall, Boulder County incomes skew considerably higher than the Denver Metro Area as a whole, again due to the presence of high-tech industries. The median household income in Louisville is expected to grow to $85,379 by 2008 or 13% over the 2003 median income estimates. The average household income in Louisville is significantly higher than the median income suggesting a wide range of household incomes is present in the community.
