Mayor and City Council
October 30, 1973
Page 3
subject of revenue, I feel that I should comment on what I consider to
be a problem area. There has been a tendency to earmark various sources
of revenue, which I feel is a policy that should be reviewed very
carefully as it relates to the future requirements of the City, as well
as to Council's ability to direct the revenues to be spent on the highest
priorities of the City.
After a careful review of all budget requests and our revenue
picture, the budget as submitted allows for reduction of the mill levy, as
applied to property taxes. The Louisville General Improvement Fund will
be reduced by 2 mills, and the Sanitation Fund will be reduced by 3.11
mills. We did however add 3 mills for the Recreation Fund, which was
approved by the voters in 1972.
In closing I want to thank the department heads and other members of
the City staff who assisted in the preparation of the budget. I also
want to thank you, the Mayor and City Council, for the interest and
consideration shown all budget requests, as well as for the many hours
spent by yourselves in the review and development of this important
document.
Respectfully submitted,
la
LEON A. WURL
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
LAW :hh
