Based on the above information, the Business Retention and Development Committee presents some
options for your consideration:
Merge the EVC and BRaD
• 3 City Council members
• 5-7 members of the business community representing different groups, sectors and
geographies. (Multiple roles can be represented by one person)
■ Chamber
■ DBA
■ McCaslin
■ Tech Center
■ South Boulder Road
■ Building Owners
■ Commercial Leasing
■ Small Businesses
■ Primary Employers
• This is very similar to the format that existed before 2018 with a couple proposed
differences.
o The business members would not get an official vote.
■ The vote was irrelevant before anyway since only the full City Council can
take official action and only the City Council members get a vote in the full
Council. This removes the ill -will that can come from split votes but does
allow for business to make their case in a meaningful setting.
o There now exists an Economic Strategic Plan as a guiding document.
■ BRaD has often been adrift trying to find a purpose. The Strategic Plan along
with a direct connection to Council gives the group the direction and the
clout needed to accomplish things.
EVC with 2-4 Business Members
• This would allow for the connection between City Council and the business community
but may be less wieldy of a group.
• It is important that these representatives be official standing members rather than be
invited on an as -needed basis or be expected to know when to participate.
Defer until after the Pandemic
• Keep BRaD in its current form until the role and best format for the EVC/BRaD in a post -
pandemic world can be better evaluated.
• BRaD can continue to meet to evaluate and offer advice as this matter is discussed.
• BRaD will also continue to offer a business voice on general issues in its limited way,
which is better than nothing.
Agenda Packet P. 11
