BOARD OF APPEALS AND BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MINUTES: ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING <br />JANUARY 24, 1980 PAGE 7 <br />Rupp suggests that maybe the State means that 5 people will have to sit at the <br />Board to make the decision, not that it necessarily means you can't have. any <br />alternates. <br />Ferris points out that one of the Counsel, Curt Rautenstrauss, said that that <br />was kind of a fine line. He said that. if 2 of the 7 members don't re -apply <br />for a place on the Board, just leave it alone.. Ferris said he would talk <br />with Curt Rauntenstrauss the next day and try to get something squared away. <br />Ewan and Davies suppose that it may be a situation whereas the 5 regular members <br />and the 2 alternates cannot both sit in on a variance. Only 5 can:sit in, <br />and only 5 have the power to vote, and 2 of those may or may not be an <br />alternate, such asthe alternate members of a jury. The alternate member would <br />not havethe voting power until the time it was needed. <br />Reed quotes that "In the event that any regular member is temporarily unable to <br />act owing to absense from the City, illness, interest in the case before the <br />Board, or any other cause, his place may be taken during such temporary dis- <br />ability by an associate member who shall enjoy full privileges". <br />Ferris says that he will see Counsel and try to get it squared away with them. <br />6. CLOSE OF THE MEETING <br />A. Closing Comments. <br />Chairman puts the questionto the Board if they've been getting their <br />variance notifications and everything else. <br />Don Ross replies that he's getting his notifications in the mail. <br />Rupp then thanks everyone forthe oppurtunity to sit it on the meeting. <br />B. Adjournment of the Meeting. <br />Chairman adjourns the meeting. <br />
