Economic Vitality Committee
Meeting Minutes
January 15, 2021
Mayor Pro Tern Maloney said he was very open to re-evaluating dates for
particular items given current staff resources. Chair Dickinson agreed, noting
that an initiative such as evaluating the Business Assistance Program would be
a significant undertaking.
IX. Staff Updates: Director Pierce briefly reviewed the status of the Outdoor Dining
program and the Keep It Local Louisville Prize Draw campaign. In addition, she
shared an email and request from a local business owner, which requests a
change to the City's ordinance regarding facial coverings. Currently, because
the Louisville ordinance does not provide an exception to remove a mask for
certain services, such as facials, these activities are currently not permitted.
Chair Dickinson said that looking at where the City's ordinance may not be
aligned with CDPHE guidance is important. However, he said changing an
ordinance to benefit a select number of businesses might not be a high priority.
Mayor Pro Tern Maloney said the mask ordinance has been more restrictive,
but that it was intentional. He indicated that without better understanding the
potential impacts, he would be reticent to recommend a change at this time.
Councilmember Leh agreed that Louisville has done relatively well in terms of
COVID-19 cases, and that may be due in part to the current ordinance.
X.
