X. Economic Recovery (Megan Pierce - Dir of Economic Vitality) LCC can
have a role in the economic recovery of Louisville. Programs need to be
developed to aid the recovery but also have long term benefits. Impact
survey for businesses 1 week after March shutdown, which generated a lot
of information. Increased communication with businesses and the
community. City have purchased infrastructure, barriers etc to support
downtown businesses. The council continues to provide grants to support
local businesses. LRC and LCC can work together to use art funds to
improve the artistic elements of their projects. Megan encourage the LCC
to think about all of Louisville for the mural project location, or several
smaller mural projects. Mark concerned that we don't have the budget to
take on multiple projects, also can the LCC be more proactive in the
development of outdoor dining. Megan, discussions are just starting, with
the future of the pandemic still unknown at this point. Outdoor dining will
remain until end of March, discussion is about what to do in April. If the LCC
can generate artistic ideas if the street closes down in the summer. Megan
said the council is working with business to match funds for improvements.
Emily, there was a priority to increase art funds, however it may take a few
year now due to covid. Leah, guidance as how to move forward to help out
all Louisville businesses. Megan, the opportunities need to be open to all
businesses, the city is working toward developing a program to support
various needs in the business community. Partner with a more narrow
focus, such as the Louisville Chamber, to get feedback of how to support
businesses. Debbie, if mural are public art do they need to be to signage
code, how many businesses have we lost in Louisville. Megan, would need
to check if art is exempt from signage code, only aware of 4 closures.
XI. Resident requester temporary COVID memorial: Adam, Louisville resident
has reached out to the Mayor to request a temporary COVID memorial.
Emily, perhaps there are different ways to address it moving forward besides
a memorial. LCC has agreed it is not currently a good use of funds.
XII. Public Art Update:
Public Art Committee Update (Mark) no updates
11. McCaslin and South Street underpass projects: Approved
111. LRC/City Attorney consideration update - No updates
XIII. Arts Grant (Adam). Have there been any submissions, Emily, the library
staff have been assisting with the process. Adam, we would like an update
on submissions, if their haven't been many, we can get the word out and
extend the deadline. Emily, Deadline is currently February 12 and she will
copy Debbie in on submissions.
