Economic Vitality Committee
Meeting Minutes
February 19, 2021
between dissolving the BRaD Committee and establishing the representation
on EVC. He said the discussion was being pushed off another month and that
this had started in November. He was also disappointed that Council members
did not share their thoughts about the representation at the February 16
meeting.
Chair Dickinson reaffirmed the commitment to discuss the Committee make-up
at the March 19 meeting.
IX. Discussion- 2020 Business Retention Report: Director Pierce shared
highlights from the report on business retention activities over approximately the
last year. She noted that visits are an important connection point with the
business community and that retention efforts are important to the business
climate. The outreach to businesses can be very fruitful in learning about what
attracted them to Louisville, what keeps them here, and what they need in
terms of support from the City. Staff employs a tool to ask consistent questions
of businesses and also to track the information from the visits.
The report also covered a briefing on business closures in 2020. Director Pierce
stated this is not yet a comprehensive count, as the data is only drawn from
those businesses that voluntarily closed license accounts. She plans to provide
additional information once Sales Tax staff has completed the 2021 license
renewal process and compare licenses this year to ones in place in 2020.
X. Discussion- Economic Vitality Strategic Plan: Due to lack of time, Director
Pierce noted that there were no critical updates in this report. She anticipates
the Committee can review the status of the plan as well as the draft scorecard
at the March meeting.
XI. Staff Updates: Director Pierce said she had no additions to the updates that
were presented in the agenda packet.
XII. Current Articles: None.
XIII. Next Meeting: The next regular meeting will be April 16, 2021 @ 1:30 PM.
XIV. Adjourn: The meeting adjourned at 3:37 PM.
Agenda Packet P. 6
