October 23, 2007
Page 4
coordinates some volunteer programs and an Eagle Scout program. Specific
properties can be signed up for volunteer maintenance and most open space
properties are currently signed up. Trail work projects on National Trails Day
also take place annually. Louisville suggested linking the websites to notify
each committee about the others projects and efforts.
Annette mentioned the open space survey as a good resource to find out
what the community is interested in. Broomfield set up their survey through
survey money and had good participation and feedback.
• Weed management -The Louisville community has lobbied for the city to
use no pesticides or herbicides at any time. This has caused some
management conflicts and changes for the staff. Louisville has recently
prepared an integrated weed management plan for review by the city council.
The plan will continue to monitor and evaluate what is being used and how
the different methods are working and any side effects. All hours spent on
the different types of control are being recorded and documented. Mowing
distances were recently reduced both in terms of buffers to trails and on the
heights of the mower cuts. A copy of the weed plan was provided.
Broomfield has not experienced the groundswell of opposition to chemical
treatments and they are used currently along with biological and mechanical
controls. A recommendation from the Louisville OSAB is to have Dr. Beck
from CSU come for a presentation on weeds and options for weed
management.
Adjournment
The meeti
Minutes Prepared by Pete Dunlaevy
Approved by on
