Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board <br />Meeting Minutes <br />Thursday March 04, 2021 <br />Virtual Meeting <br />7 PM <br />1. Roll Call: PPLAB members present Laurie Harford, Ellen Toon, Shelly Alm, Dave Clabbots, Ezra <br />Paddock and Steve Knapp. Nathan Mosley, Director of Parks, Recreation and Open Space, Dean <br />Johnson, Parks Superintendent. Councilmember Deb Fahey. Mia Barrecca, student. <br />2. Approval of Agenda: Ezra Motioned to approve, Dave Second, all in favor. <br />3. Approval of Minutes: Ezra Motioned to approve, Dave Second, all in favor. <br />4. Staff Updates <br />a. Consultant working on irrigation design for irrigation mainline project. Project out for <br />bid next month. <br />b. $25,000 awarded by Council to replace amenities. Quotes incoming for picnic table <br />replacements. <br />c. Seasonal hiring process is beginning. <br />d. Reviewing processes and equipment for herbicide -free maintenance. <br />o Ellen mentioned that the community update flyer looks very good. <br />e. Contract underway with "Ready to Work" to provide a 4-person crew to perform <br />mechanical weed -pulling. <br />o Dean mentioned that may be a learning phase. Hoping to use hand -pulling and <br />mechanical means. <br />f. Interviews underway to replace Jim Gilbert, who is retiring. <br />g. Recent issues with sledding in open space areas, causing damage to underlying brush. <br />City Council has asked for PPLAB discussion around codes in order to designate areas for <br />sledding. <br />h. Cottonwood Park Playground replacement: $300,000 budgeted for replacement. <br />i. Forts are being built in open space causing damage to trees. Discussion around "nature <br />play" and where it is appropriate. Cottonwood and Lake Parks could be designated <br />nature play areas. <br />j. Preparations for summer: Pavilion rentals will be open on a limited basis. Rentals open <br />March 171", beginning April 01. <br />5. Board Updates <br />a. None <br />
