Rl
tyofe MemorandumL uri1
Parks & Recreation
To: Recreation Advisory Board
From: Paul Borth/ Aquatics Supervisor
Date: 03/12/21
Subject: Pool Amenity Update
Purpose:
The purpose of this agenda item is to update the Board with their requested patron poll
preference of Aquatics Amenity Update purchase timeline. Staff sought feedback during the Surf
and Turf event 02/27/21 and the following weekend. The poll was conducted using pictures of
the amenities and patrons were given tokens to place in buckets for their selection of the first
feature to be added. This update is for the board to review and offer any questions and/or
suggestions to support staff in the recommendation of pool amenity feature timeline.
Background:
Developed by City Staff, the C.I.P. Amenity Update is a planned multi -feature update over the
next 3 years to keep the pool area features attractive. The City of Louisville Aquatics area
provides multiple aged user groups with multiple access to features for pleasure at various times
of the day and throughout the year.
The Staff goal was to systematically stagger the new features within the pool area and locations
in the pool area. With over 300 votes in the poll patrons voted for the Zip Line as the first
choice, followed by Inflatable and then the Climbing Wall.
Next Steps
Staff is requesting support for the proposed amenity purchase timeline. Staff originally
recommended that the Climbing Wall for the 2021 purchase, Zip Line for 2022, and Inflatable for
2023. After the poll of patrons staff will amend its recommendation with the purchase for 2021
to be the Zip Line and move the location to the Program pool at site where the climbing wall was
recommended. This will give more space in the pool area and when the climbing wall is
purchased the Zip Line can me moved to the original site in the Splash pool.
Based on RAB recommendation the next steps will be to formalize a Purchase Order for the Zip
Line to be installed over the annual maintenance at the Recreation Center.
