Youth Advisory Board <br />Work Session Summary- Dark City <br />City of Louisville Date: 1/19109 <br />Louisville Recreation ~ Senior Center <br />900 W. Via Appia <br />7:00 PM <br />Call to Order -Sam Webster called the meeting to order at 7:51 pm. <br />Roll Call was taken and the following members were present: <br />Members present: Ruby Dickson, Austin Lawrence, Charlie Light, Sam Webster. <br />Liaisons present: Mandy Perera <br />Approval of Agenda - <br />Approval of Minutes -Minutes from 12/22/08 were approved as written <br />Summary- <br />Austin found that the City of West Cliffe, Colorado, is the only <br />other Colorado city to attempt becoming a "Dark City". <br />Megan V. said she could not find ordinances pertaining to lights, <br />but she will contact the planning department and Charlie will talk to <br />the city attorney, Sam Light. <br />Austin suggested atax-exempt program for Dark City-Approved <br />buildings. <br />Mandy asked who researched light pollution's affects on animals. <br />Austin said most nocturnal animals have trouble living with light <br />pollution and birds' flight patterns are affected. <br />Sam said she has not found a way to avoid replacing all outdoor light fixtures <br />in Louisville if the city becomes a "Dark City".
