Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />March 16, 2009 <br />Page 2 of 5 <br />document. The Mayor noted that it would make sense for Council to give input <br />early in the process so that information can be considered by the full HPC before <br />a final document goes to City Council for final discussion. <br />Whiteman and Koertje agreed to be the HPC representatives on the <br />subcommittee. <br />Muth stated the subcommittee would try to meet prior to the April HPC meeting. <br />Discussion/Direction/Action - 2009 Preservation Awards <br />Muth asked if the members wanted to continue with the same categories as <br />previous years. Members will consider sites within the following categories: <br />• Preservation <br />• Rehabilitation <br />• Adaptive Reuse <br />• Sensitive Addition <br />• Preservation of an Element/Feature <br />Whiteman noted that the HPC should do more advertising of the awards and try <br />to make them more prestigious. <br />Muckle noted that the grain silo on Pine Street might be a good candidate for an <br />award. <br />Members were asked to bring their ideas for winners to the April meeting for <br />discussion and email any suggestions to Muth. <br />Discussion/Direction/Action - 2009 Subcommittees <br />Whiteman suggested that perhaps this should wait until the new staff member <br />was hired. <br />Lewis asked if perhaps instead of subcommittees the group should use task <br />delegation. She noted that with specific tasks and deadlines, more work tends to <br />be accomplished. <br />Muth will send out a list of the current committees and members will be asked to <br />come to the April meeting with ideas of what new committees or tasks should be <br />completed in 2009. <br />Discussion/Direction/Action -Demolition Review Process Regarding Initial <br />Loss of Building Type <br />Muckle noted that this item was placed on the agenda at her request. She stated <br />that the demolition review of 1308 Grant Avenue got her thinking about how the <br />demo review process handles a site when it is the first building to be demolished <br />on a block or the first building of a particular style to be demolished. She asked if <br />considerations should be made when completing a review of a building in this <br />
