Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
March 16, 2009
She met with a moving contractor on site and got an estimate for moving the
building. The estimate is based on moving it within a two-mile range. It is $75,000
for the moving and an estimated additional $40,000 for the utilities and a
foundation. She noted that when grading, drainage, and some rehabilitation is
added in the total is likely to be $500,000 (without land costs) and given the size
of the structure it would likely need a lot of at least two acres.
Lewis has been talking to a number of non-profits and plans to reach out to
Habitat for Humanity as well. She has also taken the idea to the Lafayette
Downtown Coordinator and Rep. Paul Weissman and they have tried to help
brainstorm.
Muckle reported she went to the Cultural Council meeting to see what interest
there might be in using it as a part of the possible new arts center. She noted
they did not seem particularly interested, but did agree to give the idea to the
students currently working on suggested plans.
Muckle added that the building could be great meeting space if a location could
be found for it.
Lewis noted that it would be helpful to have the building surveyed.
Muckle made a motion that the City pay for a survey. Lewis seconded the
motion. All in favor. Muth will arrange for the site to be surveyed.
Whiteman asked what if would take to get the rules for the Preservation Fund
changed so that funds could be used outside of the Old Town Overlay.
Muth noted that as the area was established by the ballot question, it would
require a vote in November to change it.
Lewis reported that she%xl's continuing work on finding a location for the building,
but noted that it has been a lot of work and asked for another member to assist
her. Koertje offered to do so.
836 & 844 Main Street -stay expired 4/22/08
No report.
824 South Place -stay expired 12/21/08
No report.
Ms. Downer's Cabins
No report.
Items from Staff
