RULES TO REMEMBER

^ s the weather warms, more residents enjoy bring-
.r\.ing their dogs out to enjoy those long walks. We
remind all residents that all dogs, regard-
less of how well behaved, are required to be
on a leash and owners must clean up after
them.
rules also apply when taking your
dog to one of the many parks, open spaces,
or trails within Louisville. While our pub-
lic lands are often an ideal destination for
dog owners and their four-legged friends, there are a few
rules and common courtesies to remember:
ofF-leash ONLY in the two desig-
nated areas within the City; the dog park at Commu-
ofF-leash area;
are many
doggy-bag stations and waste receptacles provided
throughout the City, but a significant amount of dog
waste is left behind. Dog waste harms soil and water
quality and can spread diseases such as Parvovirus.
· In parking lots, at trailheads, and throughout the City
in general, be sure to keep your dog on-leash to avoid
conflicts with other dogs or people you may encounter.
· Dogs that appear to be aggressive, sick, in heat, or
without current vaccination are prohibited in the dog
off-leash areas.
off-leash along trails and open spaces
off-leash in
neighborhoods often harass other dogs and trail! side-
walk users and often damage neighborhood landscapes
and yards.
Dogs are an important part of our community. Fol-
lowing a few simple rules and common courtesies can
help maintain a safe and healthy city for all of us.

Is YOUR SUMP PUMP RUNNING?

Over the last few weeks Louisville has received
significant rainfall. Earlier this year there were
TIlese factors have resulted in

Public Works Department has received phone calls from
residents concerned about sump pumps running more
frequently than normal.
If you use a sump pump to keep your basement free
of water, please review the following do's and don'ts for
good sump pump operation.
· DO NOT discharge the sump pump in a way that
impacts your neighbor's property.
· DO NOT discharge the sump pump to your house-
hold sewer system.
· DO NOT discharge the sump pump in a way that cre-
ates a water crossing on the sidewalk that may become
slippery or icy.
· DO NOT store hazardous or toxic materials near your
sump pit. If spilled they could be inadvertently dis-
charged with the ground water.
· DO discharge the sump pump in a way that maximizes
discharge absorption into grass or landscaped areas and
away from your foundation.
· DO check your sump pump operation prior to the
time period in which it is likely to be utilized.
· DO make sure your electric connections are grounded
and if possible limit the electrical load on the sump
pump circuit.
If you have a finished basement or store valuables
near your sump area it may be advisable to have a back

water sensors that will help alert homeowners to sump
pump failures.

CITY MANAGER SEARCH CONTINUES

In January, the City Council hired the Prothman Group, an executive search firm, to assist with the recruitment
of Prothman Group worked with City Council and community members to deter-
mine the qualities, characteristics, and skills they would like to see in the new manager.
