<br /> <br />SUMMER READING PROGRAM WRAP-UP <br /> <br />CHILDREN - "Get a Clue" <br />More than 800 children <br />signed up this year, accu- <br />mulating more than 9,000 hours of <br />reading. Attendance at our special <br />programs and events was impres- <br />sive, often filling the Library Meet- <br />ing Room to capacity. A weekly <br />Children's Book Club was also a big hit. Here are some <br />of the program highlights: <br />t+JSuper Sleuth readers enjoyed solving the theft of a <br />priceless Sherlock Holmes book from the Library, with a <br />little help from Louisville Detective Shad Watts and his <br />Crime Solvers program; <br />real D.W came with her brother, Arthur, to <br />explain the makings of their popular books; <br />ikJBill Anderson taught us how to solve the mystery of <br />making our dreams come true through books; <br />i([JMadelyn and Ernie raised the roof with an interac- <br />tive musical program. <br />TEENS - "Mythic Summer" <br />Over 135 teens signed up for this year's program! <br />Participants enjoyed attending a variety of pro- <br />grams, such as: <br />ikJWriting workshops with Spring Lea Henry, the <br />founder of the Grumpy Dragon publishing company for <br />teen authors; <br />ikJMythic Magic Show with Mark Strivings; <br />ikJAnimel manga drawing workshop by local art in- <br />structor, David Sullivan. <br /> <br /> " <br /> '" <br />":tt::.... <br />1[' il. \ <br /> .,1 <br /> ;''i"' -- .- <br /> <br /> <br />CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK <br />NOVEMBER 12-18 <br /> <br /> <br />" Rise Up Reading!", this year's <br />theme, highlights how children <br />can rise to their challenges, imaginations, <br />and dreams by developing a love of read- <br />ing, <br />Public Library will feature new <br />books and will highlight "Rise Up Read- <br />ing!" in story times during the 88th cel- <br />ebration of Children's Book Week. <br /> <br />Knit Wits group learned to knit with an eye <br />towards charity projects, and movie fans were able to <br />watch "mythic" movies like Dragonheart, Fairy Tide: A <br />True Story, and Dark Crystal. We also celebrated all <br />things Harry Potter with a special showing of the first <br />movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. <br />ADULTS - "Book 'em @ }Our Library" <br />Over 120 adults participated in the Library's <br />Adult Summer Reading Program. Participants <br />read and listened to books; watched movies at the Li- <br />brary; learned about working undercover from author <br />and retired DEA agent, R.T. Lawton; and enjoyed a <br />panel discussion with Colorado mystery authors.
