DOWNTOWN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

II\'JNS A WARD FOR THE STREET FAIRE

The Downtown Business Association (DBA)
was honored at the 2008 Governor's Awards
for Downtown Excellence. The DBA received the Best
Promotional Event award for the Street Faire. The
awards were presented by Downtown Colorado, Inc.
in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Lo-
cal Affairs.
Downtown Colorado Inc, noted: "Something is go-
ing on in Louisville! . . . the event has increased downtown
business activity, construction and growth, and encour-
aged retail and restaurant development. The major keys
to success for this event are local sponsorship and support
from the City Council and other city agencies. "
Congratulations to the DBA!

KEEP IT CLEAN PARTNERSHIP

WINS EPAAwARD

The Keep It Clean Partnership (KICP) was
awarded 2nd Place from the US Environmental
Protection Agency's 2008 Clean Water Act Recogni-
tion Award. The selection was based on the demon-
strated creative and outstanding stormwater excel-
lence practices.
The KICP is a joint effort of the City of Louis-
ville, the City of Boulder, the Town of Erie, the City
of Longmont, the Town of Superior, and Boulder
County. The City is in partnership with these other
communities in Boulder County to protect the ecosys-
tem of our watershed and inform residents of possible
impacts to water quality from stormwater run-off into
Coal Creek.

The City is. seeking certified Lifeguar~s for part-
time shifts. We offer a fun work enVIronment
with learning opportunities and great pay. Current
certifications in Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR/
PR, AED, and American Red Cross required, WSI's
preferred. Must be at least 16 years of age. WE need to make sure to
assist the numerous charities who provide food and
clothing for those in our community who are having
a difficult time. We need to encourage a more fervent
benevolance this holiday season and be more respect-
ful and courteous to each other!!
Is Louisville in for bleak economic times? Just as
families are making choices, we, as the Mayor and
City Council, make the same choices for the City. We
are fortunate to have a budget that is not only man-
ageable, but is not dependent on revenues that may
come into the City. We have many positive economic
indicators in Louisville and we should be thankful for
those opportunities.
2009 will be a year for Louisville to make some
critical decisions and the City Council is ready for the
challenge. We must be willing to be progressive, as we
have in the past, to anticipate our City's needs and the
services that make our City so wonderful. Your City
Council will be studying various measures to contin-
ue to provide those services and one of the options in
2009 will be the consideration of an equitable use tax.
No decisions have been made and we are aware of the
prior vote by our citizens. We will be canvassing to
evaluate some alternatives and to address some of the
concerns as to why the previous use tax ballot ques-
tion did not pass.
In closing, I would like to express my heartfelt ap-
preciation to all the citizens of Louisville for allowing
me to serve as your Mayor. From my family to your
family, I wish each of you the happiest of holidays
during this very contemplative time.

REMINDERS FROM
CODE ENFORCEMENT

Snowy weather brings slippery side- ~
walks. City code requires property
owners to clear sidewalks of ice and snow
within 24 hours of the last accumulated
snowfall.

Dogs residing in the City of Louis-
ville are required to be licensed.
2009 City dog licenses are now available
through the City Clerk's Office. For more
; information, please call 303.335.4574.
