LCityof
Louisville
COLORADO -SINCE 1878
ECONOMIC VITALITY COMMITTEE
SUBJECT:
DISCUSSION- COVID-19 BUSINESS IMPACT FOLLOW-UP
SURVEY RESULTS
DATE: MAY 21, 2021
PRESENTED BY: MEGAN E. PIERCE, ECONOMIC VITALITY DIRECTOR
SUMMARY:
The City of Louisville initially surveyed local businesses about the impacts of the
COVID-19 pandemic the week of March 23, 2020. The City received 129 responses
within a week of releasing the survey. Since that time, the City has had opportunities to
gather feedback and learn about the support businesses required through grant
application questions, webinars, retention visits, and one-on-one meetings. The ongoing
input from businesses directly experiencing the pandemic impacts has been critical to
determining the form and timing of the City's support measures.
A follow-up survey on the business impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic was
distributed to the business community on March 18; the survey remained open through
April 5. Since the survey was distributed broadly through the City's e-news contacts
(three separate e-blasts) as well as by the Chamber of Commerce, it is not possible to
determine a statistical response rate. However, 91 responses were received by the
closing date. To make the survey accessible to as many business owners as possible,
the survey (and associated communications) were provided in both English and
Spanish. There were no responses to the Spanish survey tool.
DISCUSSION:
A complete set of results to this survey is presented in Attachment #1. The majority
response for each question is bolded. Please note that on questions where an "Other"
response option was provided, those comments are included after the data results
summary. On questions where respondents could "check all that apply" the numerical
summary shows "total" responses —the total count of answers —as well as "actual"
respondents —the number of businesses taking the survey that answered the question.
In addition, for the "check all that apply" questions, staff provided a ranking of the top
three responses in the far right column. The data presented below follows the question
order in the attachment.
Survey Question Responses
Overall, 50% of respondents (45) said that the COVID-19 pandemic had been a
"significant negative impact" on their business. The next most frequent number of
respondents (34.44%, 31) said that the business had experienced "some negative
impact" as a result of the pandemic. Based on the timing of the survey, the tool
attempted to understand the changes on the State Dial that took place early in 2021;
please note that since this time, the State's Dial framework sunset on April 16. The
majority of respondents (64.04%, 57) said that the impact of the pandemic "remained
Agenda Packet P. 6
