Meredyth Muth
From: Matt Magley <mattm@superiorcolorado.gov>
Sent: Wednesday, July 7, 2021 9:55 AM
To: Heather Balser
Subject: Building Codes
Below is the update I sent my Board regarding building codes and updates to them.
Staff to review timelines for adopting the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) as part of
the Town's building codes, and potential for including energy "stretch" codes that jurisdictions can choose
to adopt that reach beyond current IECC standards. These include provisions to require residential and
commercial construction projects include solar and EV readiness improvements, which ensure new
buildings are constructed with the electrical capacity and pre -wiring to facilitate and optimize the
installation of EV charging stations and rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for future
use. Additionally, there is a regional effort led by Boulder County with broader goals to create a roadmap
to net zero new construction and a roadmap to 100 percent renewable electricity across the county, as well
as standardized 2021 IECC adoption across municipalities. A consultant may be hired to help lead this
County -wide effort and, if so, the Town could participate in the project and contribute toward this
cost. Staff is participating in this initial dialog and will update the Board as this work progresses.
iDMATTHEW G. MAGLEY
Town Manager
Town of Superior
124 E.
