LLCity0f
Louisville
L .D • SINCE 1878
Memorandum
To: Historical Commission
From: Bridget Bacon, Museum Services Supervisor
Date: July 13, 2021
Re: Museum Interpretive Plan for the Trott -Downer Cabins
The Museum staff has developed the following Interpretive Plan for the Trott -Downer
Cabins, which are in the process of being relocated to a site next to Miners Field. The
Museum will manage them for the City. This will be the Museum's first satellite location.
The goal is to open them to show to visitors in 2022.
The purpose of the Interpretive Plan is to be a guiding document that sets forth the vision
for how the Museum will interpret and talk about the Cabins with visitors, for at least the
first years of their being open to the public. It includes such things as a description of how
we came to be at this point with the Cabins being relocated back to the Miners Field
neighborhood, a list interpretive themes around which the staff will plan programming
and tours, an analysis of site considerations, a discussion of future ideas to explore, and
an exploration of how the Cabins can be utilized to reach different audiences and talk
about Louisville history.
Other City staff members who are involved in working on the Cabins in terms of their
relocation or their preservation as landmarks have had an opportunity to read and give
feedback on the Interpretive Plan. The Interpretive Plan was also the subject of a recent
Zoom meeting and discussion with the Museum's volunteers, who will have an important
role to play along with staff in showing the Cabins and using the interpretive themes to
talk with visitors about Louisville history.
