Open Space Advisory Board
Information Item 6: Staff Updates Continued
August 11, 2021
a. Saturday, August 7, from 9:30 to 10:30 pm, Dark Sky Monitoring. Davidson Mesa Open
Space.
b. Saturday, August 28, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm, Brilliant Bats. Coal Creek Golf Course.
Resource Protection:
1. Pending the completion of some promotional materials with the department's marketing
specialist, rangers hope to launch their "Good Dog, Good Hooman" campaign on August
11. This campaign will approach the issue of off -leash dog enforcement by using positive
reinforcement to recognize good behavior. The goal is to identify most Louisville
residents who recreate responsibly with their dogs and incentivize residents who break
the rules to change their behavior.
a. In the course of their regular patrol duties, rangers will contact residents who they
see displaying correct behavior with their canine friends, such as keeping dogs on
leash, picking up poop, and not leaving their dogs in hot cars.
b. Rangers will hand out "goodies" to these residents, including a custom bandanna
and several different stickers.
c. Rangers will continue their regular enforcement, maintenance, and emergency
response duties while the campaign progresses.
11
