Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
July 26, 2021
Golf Course
Nathan Mosley presented the second quarter dashboard, which shows higher than
anticipated income and profit. More people are playing, golf programming has
been successful, and lesson times are full. He sees strong local support for the
home course.
• City Council approved synthetic turf for the driving range, which will help
maintain attendance in the winter.
• Golf course managers will continue to monitor staffing, with the goal of adding
instructors, if needed.
• Dynamic Pricing has added to the financial success of the course.
Board members applauded the success of the golf course, but want to make sure
that the City Council is aware that a continual increase in revenue may be
unrealistic. The golf course is limited by both physical capacity and personnel.
Nathan reported that golf course revenue can cover operating expenses, but not
capital expenses, such as a new club house. A new club house is needed, so that
the golf course will remain competitive and continue to attract players.
Ginger Cross reported that a survey is in the works to find out which amenities
people would like at the golf course and in the club house. The survey will go out
in August to the data base of Coal Creek players. The survey will also be posted
on social media, and a link to the survey will be available at the club house.
The board discussed their responses to the venue change for the 4t" of July
celebration, when the golf course was closed to the public for viewing fireworks.
This decision was made in response to the COVID pandemic, before the vaccine
was easily available.
• Most board members were pleased with the actual fireworks, and could see
them from different parts of the city, as long as the fireworks went high enough.
• One board member noted that this event, as structured in the past, was an
opportunity for non -golfing residents to visit the golf course. The pre -pandemic
celebration, with the swing band and the food trucks, was a fun event.
• Ginger reported that the partnership with Superior was a plus. Residents could
enjoy different 4t" of July events at both cities.
The Rec Center Advisory Board asked for the edited version of the Coal Creek
Course Strategic Plan. Nathan said that he would send this.
