Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />June 8, 2020 <br />Page 2of4 <br />Andy Johnson, DAJ Design, spoke as the applicant. He noted the quantity and quality of the <br />original materials that remain on the house. <br />Public Comments: <br />None <br />Discussion: <br />Parris commented that the structure seems to meet all the criteria for age, significance, and <br />integrity. Klemme agreed. <br />Parris made a motion to recommend approval of the Probable Cause finding and the $4,000 <br />Historic Structure Assessment Grant. Klemme seconded. Passed unanimously by voice vote. <br />541 Jefferson Avenue: HSA Presentation <br />Andy Johnson, DAJ Design, presented the following information regarding the HSA completed <br />for 541 Jefferson Ave. <br />Johnson commented on the changes that have occurred to the house over time. A major <br />renovation was completed in 1997 that moved the house on the lot to comply better with zoning <br />and also changed the facade to include the addition of a bay window. Proposed changes to the <br />house as a result of the HSA include: removal of stucco siding; removal of front door; removal of <br />replacement windows; repair or replace wood siding and trim; add an historically appropriate <br />front door; add historically appropriate windows and trim. <br />Klemme asked for clarification on the window at the rear of the house. Johnson confirmed its <br />location over the stairs. <br />Haley asked about the addition located on the front of the house and if there was any <br />conversation regarding reverting to its original appearance. Johnson commented on the <br />changes that occurred to the house over time including door and window relocation as well as <br />the original materials that may remain on the structure. <br />Parris commented on the possibility relocating the front door to its original location. Johnson <br />responded that the relocation wouldn't be feasible based on the current layout. <br />Klemme commented on the extent of the 1997 and that it doesn't comply with the Secretary of <br />the Interiors guidelines for renovations. <br />Hayley commented on the importance of differentiating the materials and design on new <br />additions from historic portions of a property. <br />Subcommittee Updates <br />Klemme discussed the video she's developing to provide an overview of the historic <br />preservation program. She also discussed a shared spreadsheet for the HPC members. <br />Selvoski responded that a maximum of two commissioners can work on any specific document; <br />documents can be shared with the full commission for discussion at an HPC meeting. <br />Klemme asked how commissioners could evaluate properties in an objective way. <br />2 <br />
