Cltyof LOUISVILLE REVITALIZATION
Louisville COMMISSION
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
SUBJECT: UPADATE ON AGREEMENT TO FUND ENHANCEMENT OF
DOWNTOWN PATIO PARKLETS
DATE: NOVEMBER 10, 2021
PRESENTED BY: MEGAN E. PIERCE, ECONOMIC VITALITY DIRECTOR
SUMMARY:
On June 16, the Louisville Revitalization Commission (LRC) adopted Resolution 21-05
for Funding Enhancement of Downtown Patio Parklets. The Cooperation Agreement
between the City of Louisville and the LRC contemplated $81,000 in funding for
purchase of patio parklets and parklet canopy systems to respond to increased demand
for outdoor dining.
UPDATE:
The City currently owns 28 of the 12' patio parklets. These are generally rented to
businesses for a fee of $1,000 per patio, per season. Each patio has historically cost
$12,000. The City only has two additional patio purchases contemplated in its six -year
Capital Improvement Plan (CIP): one in 2022 and one in 2024. These were included in
the CIP to plan for replacements rather than program expansion.
However, staff expects additional demand for outdoor dining, including participants that
have not previously been part of the patio parklet program. Although the $81,000 has
already been included in the 2021 LRC budget and the Cooperation Agreement
executed, staff agreed to get an update on pricing before proceeding with the purchase.
Unfortunately, prices have not come down and our vendor has not communicated an
expectation that prices will decline before the 2022 program year. Staff received an
updated quote for four (4) patio parklets at $16,000 each and eleven (11) canopy
systems at $1,500 each.
Based on the interest expressed by downtown restaurants, staff recommends
purchasing five (5) patio parklets this year, for delivery ahead of the 2022 program year.
This would result in a total expenditure of $80,000. Staff has not received high interest
in the canopies and so recommends not advancing those purchases at this time.
Agenda Packet P. 8
