LCitvo
.f
Louisville
COLORADO -SINCE 1878
Youth Advisory Board
Minutes
October 7, 2021
6:30-7:30 PM
Virtual Meeting
Call to Order — Mandy Perera called the meeting to order at 6:32pm.
II. Roll call — Absent members = Conner Smith (excused), Nate Hart, Jocelyn
Rapp
III. Approval of Agenda —The agenda was approved by all members.
IV. Introductions - Name, new or returning YAB member, school, grade,
favorite activity. Brynn also encouraged us to share our preferred pronouns.
V. Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda - None
VI. What is the YAB? What can you expect in the coming year? — Jessica
briefly summarized YAB's purpose. YAB is a group of Louisville residents in
grades 6-12 who serve as liaisons between City Council and their peers. They
represent the youth voice in our local government, and meet monthly to work on
a yearly project.
VI I. Expectations of Board members and Professional Conduct — Board
members are expected to attend monthly meetings, and during meetings they
should strive to be good listeners, to be respectful, and to remember to behave
professionally as they represent the City.
VI I I. Discuss Officer positions - Chair, Vice -Chair, and Secretary — Mandy
described the roles of Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary, and noted that members
may run for these roles at the next meeting. Interested candidates should
prepare a short speech to share next month, and officers will be elected via an
anonymous vote.
IX. Open Government pamphlet — Jessica highlighted the key components of
the City's policies which include posting meeting information publicly and in
advance, and that 3+ members discussing YAB business constitutes a meeting
so please be careful about communicating outside of our official meetings.
X. What is EDI? Why is it important? - Presented by Meagan Brown,
Learning and Development Specialist — Meagan's presentation helped us
define EDI and understand why it's important to address it. She also used some
interactive polls and trivia questions that helped board members understand the
complex and sometimes unexpected ways bias operates in our culture.
City of Louisville
Recreation Center 900 West Via Appia Louisville CO 80027
303.335.4902 (phone) 303.335.4959 (fax) www. ci.louisville. co. us
