Cityof 2022 Planning Commission
LouiSV111e Supplemental Questions
COLORADO -SINCE 1878
Applicant Name: Derek Cole
The Planning Commission is a quasi-judicial board that evaluates land use proposals against
municipal zoning regulations and makes recommendations to the City Council.
The Commission meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm.
Terms are two years, four years, or six years.
You must be a resident of Louisville to serve.
1. Briefly explain your interest in serving on the Planning Commission.
I moved to Louisville in 2020, as the COVID lockdown was becoming a long-term event.
Even then, I was excited by the downtown area, the ample and nice commercial zones,
the top-notch residential zones, and the deliberate use of parks and open spaces. I love
this town and look forward to raising my son here.
At the same time, I see how people are slowly changing Lousiville as they renovate and
change homes. Also, I see opportunities to make the areas around downtown just as
exciting as Main Street. I want to help the town navigate these changes, helping to
preserve the small-town feel I love while making this an even better place for both
familes and businesses.
2. What are your thoughts about the building and development you see in Louisville?
love Lousiville, with its classical small-town feel. I also suspect there are two trends
1. More people likely want to move here
2. People-- especially those with or planning on families-- want more room in their
homes.
If we aren't deliberate in considering how people expand their dwellings and where
busiensses expand, we could endanger the very things that make Lousiville such a great
place to live and work.
As plans are proposed and considered, we'll have to consider how the proposals affect
the owners, their neighbors, and the town itself. We want people to be happy in this
town, and we want it to grow and improve. To do this, we'll need to consider multiple
factors and think about both the short- and long-term impacts of proposals.
47
