What qualifications, skill sets, and relevant experiences do you have that would be beneficial for this position? I have a master's degree in public health and lead the Prevention Services Division at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Work in public health requires a systems thinking approach that looks at how our policy decisions ultimately affect people's health and well-being. Having worked in state government for 10 years and at the local level before that, I am familiar with both the power and constraints faced by government. I have extensive experience in management and leadership as well as the public health skills of assessment and strategic planning. Recently I created a built environment unit at the state public health department in order to bridge public health with the climate change and environmental justice work in the department. I also have policy and communication experience from my work at the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing as well as significant experience with the legislative and budgeting process at the federal and state level. 5.
