City Council
Meeting Minutes
September 28, 2021
Councilmember Dickinson stated it is hard to determine costs however it is also hard to
spend this money now if we don't think the building is not going to be built.
Mayor Stolzmann stated she doesn't feel the schematic design will provide enough
information for a good cost estimate. She does not think there is money to fund this
project unless the Foundation can raise significant funds.
Councilmember Fahey stated she believes the need for the building will continue to grow
and this project should move forward.
Councilmember Lipton stated schematic designs are useful for getting more cost
information but that may not be needed at this point. He suggested there is middle ground
by having the conceptual design costs updated. He suggested doing some work on
engagement now and do the schematic design in a year or so.
Councilmember Leh agreed spending some time and money on public engagement in
2022 could be a good compromise.
Mayor Stolzmann stated we know we do not have the money to build the expansion now
and it will always have to compete with all of our other priorities. Unless we can commit to
funding the expansion we don't need this additional information.
Mayor Pro Tem Maloney stated that the museum has value and he supports spending
more on public engagement for now. He noted that any future funding decision will always
have to include comparing spending here to spending on other priorities.
Mayor Stolzmann stated she thinks the money for engagement would be better spent on
programming at the museum.
MOTION: Councilmember Leh moved to fund $50,000 for public engagement in 2022
paid for 75% by the City and 25% by the Foundation and update the conceptual numbers;
Councilmember Dickinson seconded.
VOTE: Motion passed by roll call vote 6-1 with Mayor Stolzmann voting no.
ADJOURN
Members adjourned at 9:11 pm.
Ashley Izmann, ayor
Of Lotiq
eredyth Muth, City Clerk 6
SEAL)
Own
