Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
November 10, 2021
Additional material - Helen's email to Nathan from 11/10.
Dear Nathan,
Brief comments/notes:
Generally some worry about the "slippery slope" of opening up the active recreation categories
on Open space when our code calls for passive recreation
Specific concerns about this change:
Are we going to provide a link or names of properties classified in the City of Louisville Open
Space Master Plan as "Open Space — Visitor Land" and "Open Space — Other Lands", - where
can people find this information?
I think our stewardship of the land is not limited to wildlife so I think damage to vegetation is
another limit that we should add call out in the code, if vegetation is too broad perhaps an
acceptable definition from Steve or experts - native vegetation... perennial vegetation ...
foundation vegetation, etc...
If we have damage happening to vegetation we would want the ability to close or reroute access
to the hill.
If we allow sledding do you think folks will want to try skiing or mountain ski -biking in these
areas? Will these activities be allowed there?
Should we include a restriction for safety and proximity to roads or trails to avoid collisions or
dangerous intersections?
I understand we want to be open to new appropriate passive or low impact recreation but
perhaps we should add to the list to include ice skating as a prohibited activity (to support signs
and warnings at our ponds)
Thanks for the opportunity to ask these questions and share my ideas and comments.
Cheers,
Helen
E:3
