SUBJECT: EDI TASK FORCE FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS
DATE: NOVEMBER 1, 2021 PAGE 2 OF 3
workers, and consumers. The focus of the Task Force centers on community aspects of
EDI, versus the internal operations of the City, as those efforts are currently underway
within the organization.
The City retained a consulting team, Graves Civic Solutions (Anthony Graves and Emily
Shamsid-Dean), to assist with the selection and facilitation of the EDI Task Force, and
to help the Task Force with the development of recommendations to City Council
regarding actionable steps the City and community can take to improve the climate
around EDI.
The responsibilities of the Task Force include, at a minimum, to:
- Identify what EDI issues are most important to address to make Louisville a more
welcoming place for BIPOC to live, visit, shop, use City services, and/or work,
such as land use, transportation, and BIPOC business -related issues (e.g.,
attraction, development, and retention of BIPOC-owned businesses;
procurement; and patronage of Louisville businesses), and may identify other
issues as well.
Develop discrete written recommendations to identify the following, focusing on
community aspects of EDI versus the internal organizational operations of the
City:
o The four to five most important areas of concern about EDI the City should
address.
o The goals and objectives the City should seek to achieve in each of these
areas of concern.
o Some tactics or approaches the City should consider in meeting these
goals and objectives.
Provide monthly updates to City Council regarding Task Force activities and next
steps.
The EDI Task Force met from May — November 2021 in an effort to provide
recommendations to City Council by December, 2021.
On May 5, 2021 City Council appointed 11 members to the EDI Task Force. The
member bios and more information about the Task Force can be found on the City's
website.
City support for the EDI Task Force:
The City has provided a range of accommodations in order to ensure that Task Force
members have the supports necessary to engage in this intensive community effort, and
to support participation from diverse members of the community. All meetings were held
remotely, and were interpreted in Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL) for Task
Force member and public participation. The Task Force members were also able to
access free child care, technology support, food assistance, and other supports to
ensure they are able to fully participate.
CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
