LL Cityof CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION Louisville AGENDA ITEM 2 COLORADO • SINCE 1878 SUBJECT: DISCUSSION/DIRECTION — 2022 CITY COUNCIL WORK PLANNING DATE: DECEMBER 14, 2021 PRESENTED BY: MEGAN DAVIS, INTERIM CITY MANAGER ROB ZUCCARO, INTERIM DEPUTY CITY MANAGER EMILY HOGAN, ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER FOR COMMUNICATION AND SPECIAL PROJECTS SUMMARY: City Council will conduct the first phase of its annual work planning at this meeting, with a second follow up meeting to be held on January 11, 2022. The end -goal of the work sessions is to finalize a realistic work plan for 2022 that reflects Council's priorities on issues that require Council policy direction or guidance. The work plan will include issues that City Council plans to address throughout the course of the year, the approximate meeting time Council will devote to each issue, and a rough schedule (by quarter) when Council will consider each issue. The Council work plan helps staff prioritize internal work plans and schedule the work that is needed to bring to Council for engagement. In addition, the work plan helps the public understand the key issues that City Council will focus on in the coming year. The work planning sessions will be facilitated by June Ramos, with J Ramos Associates, LLC. This meeting will include an introduction to the work planning process from City staff followed by Ms. Ramos facilitating a discussion on setting criteria for prioritization at the follow up meeting on January 11 and reviewing a list of potential work plan items. At the January 11 meeting, Council will prioritize the work plan and determine the desired timing for consideration of the items, within constraints of the City Council's 2022 meeting schedule. Once completed, staff will use the approved Council 2022 City Council Work Plant to develop the advanced agenda for the year. A working agenda for the meeting is included as Attachment 1. BACKGROUND: The City Council annual work plan includes all the items that the Council would like to address throughout the calendar year. The work plan is limited to what can feasibly be accomplished by staff and Council over that time. Currently, the draft includes more items than Council or staff will be able to accomplish over the course of the year, so City Council will need to reduce the draft work plan considerably. In 2021, 19 items were included on the work plan (not including Annual/Recurring items), with 5 prioritized as high, 10 prioritized as medium, and 4 prioritized as low. Generally, staff will focus on the high and medium ranked items and as time and resources are available, work on the low ranked items. Attached for reference is a 2021 Work Plan status report with a brief update on each 2021 Work Plan item (Attachment 2). CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION K
