Reverend Walter Radke
was the minister for the nearby Baptist Church located at 701 Grant Ave. The Radkes
came to Louisville from Wisconsin in 1952 and at first lived in the Baptist parsonage,
which at the time was at the historic house at 500 Pine. (In 2008, five sisters from the
Radke family visited Louisville and the Louisville Historical Museum from all over the
country during a trip to the Denver area. They shared information and memories of
attending the Louisville Grade School with the Museum staff at that time.)
In late 1956, Walter Radke resigned from his post. Newspapers indicate that his next
posting was at a Baptist Church in Broomfield, and the family moved away from
Louisville. In late 1956 and early 1957, they advertised their home for sale, describing it
in this way: "FOR SALE: A 3-bedroom home all modern, coal stoker furnace heat, extra
room in basement. Double garage, curb and gutter in. Price $7,500. Terms." In April
1957, they sold 633 McKinley. (The final sale price did not appear on the deed.)
Meyer Family Ownership, 1957-1965
In 1957, Donald and Marian Meyer, previously of Marshall, bought 633 McKinley and
moved in. Advertisements in the Louisville Times show that she did dressmaking and
alterations out of their home at 633 McKinley, and newspaper items indicate that they
had young children during their ownership and residence.
By 1963, the Meyers had moved to Arvada and they rented out 633 McKinley. In 1964,
the Louisville Times reported that Mr. and Mrs. Ed Miska and family had moved out of
the Don Meyers home at 633 McKinley.
5
