City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />November 1, 2021 <br />Page 3 of 9 <br />Mayor Pro Tern Maloney shared that he will miss Councilmember Lipton's sage thoughts <br />and endless drive for collaboration. <br />Councilmember Fahey stated Councilmember Lipton was both a mentor and friend, not <br />just to her, but all the councilmembers and expressed that he will be truly missed. <br />Councilmember Dickinson appreciated Councilmember Lipton's honesty and <br />straightforwardness. He stated they didn't always agree on the issues, but that made for <br />good discussions. <br />Councilmember Leh stated Councilmember Lipton was gracious and respectful of <br />questions and was a master at running a Planning Commission meeting. <br />Councilmember Brown appreciated Councilmember Lipton's service to the City and <br />commitment to the community. <br />EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION TASK FORCE — <br />FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Anthony Graves, Graves Civic Solutions, introduced the EDI Task Force members stating <br />this will be a presentation of highlights from the final report and some reflection from the <br />Task Force members. Also present was Emily Shamsid-been, ESD Consulting. <br />Mr. Graves introduced the Louisville EDI Task Force members: Stephanie Barr, Nancy <br />Commins, Y'Anique Duke, Francisco Estevez, Jojo Follmar, Grace Gee, Hazleena <br />Hashim, Devanand Heins, Ronald Reeves, Lyanne Terada, and Lu Yu. <br />Ms. Shamsid-been reminded Council of the EDI Task Force objective "To provide <br />advisory recommendations to the Louisville City Council with respect to community issues <br />affecting Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and other marginalized <br />communities. " She noted the final meeting of the Task Force was held on October 28tn <br />Ms. Shamsid-been stated the Task Force worked on selecting topics for focus groups to <br />inform the understanding of the BIPOC experience and other marginalized communities <br />in Louisville; they convened five focus groups; reviewed community feedback; and <br />discussed community needs. Members shared their own lived experiences ; analyzed the <br />data into themes for action by the City; and developed the final report. <br />Ms. Shamsid-been stated the EDI Task Force's final recommended priorities are: a Safe <br />and Welcoming Environment and Language Justice; Public Accommodation/Access to <br />Services; Housing; Youth Engagement; and Public Health. She noted the Task Force <br />recommends the first two items be where the City's EDI efforts should begin. <br />
