City Council
Study Session Summary
January 18, 2021
• Parks and Open Space is working on fence repairs for our properties.
• Publi Works is still working on getting water back on for all homes; currently
awaiting testing results.
• The engineer report on the retaining walls has come in and is being reviewed by
staff.
• Police Department reported only one burglary reported this past week; no issues
in the burn area.
• Placards still available at Ascent Church 8 am — 6pm through at least Friday; it
may be extended it if needed.
• Calls and emails to the call center are slowing down this week.
• Members of the media are interviewing the water team this morning.
Mayor Stolzmann stated yesterday FEMA met with herself and the mayor of Superior
along with the County Commissioners. There is a very complicated process on how
debris removal is funded. There is no agreement in place with FEMA we yet and we are
lobbying for FEMA to help pay for removal on private property. It is very difficult but all
the entities are working on the process and lobbying for FEMA to reimburse us the
costs. We are also working on trying to get disaster recovery Community Development
Block Grants.
Councilmember Fahey stated she is getting questions about if the City would be able
take care of items HOAs were previously doing in these areas.
Councilmember Dickinson stated he is getting questions about air quality and would like
more information to give to residents.
Councilmember Most would like some information on how the state can help with the
underinsurance problem as it is clearly an issue across the state. She too would like
more information on air quality and where problems might be stemming from.
Mayor Pro Tern Maloney noted that air quality issues may be around for some time as
conditions change over time.
Councilmember Leh stated he was at the DAC yesterday and heard about a number of
issues including concerns about missing pets, rebuilding costs, and debris removal.
Also getting questions about when the burn areas will be sprayed so people can sift for
possessions prior to that. DAC does have lawyers from the bar association helping
people with insurance issues. Still getting lots of questions on when water will be
restored to the homes still without.
Councilmember Brown noted people want to make sure whatever is sprayed to hold
down the ash is the safest possible product.
