Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
November 22, 2021
Board Updates
2021 Recap and Goal Setting
• Board members would like to be proactive in the bi-annual budgeting process, rather
than simply reviewing items late in the process, and reacting when the decisions are
already set. Board members would like to provide input for the 2023-24 plan early in
the year.
• We will bring goals to the meeting in December. In addition, we can write items that
we would like included in the 2023-24 budget, and email them to Kathy and Nathan,
with a cc to Lisa. Then the RAB would like to be involved in reviewing and prioritizing
budget choices in February and March.
• Kathy reported that some major maintenance issues will need to be part of the budget.
For example, original HVAC units need to be replaced in the Senior Center. There is
also concrete settling near the pool and playground, which will require repair.
• Kathy informed us that hourly wages for some employees may need to be increased
substantially, in order to be competitive with other facilities.
• If we need an extra meeting during the budget process, that is possible, as long as the
meeting is posted as required by the City.
• The Parks budget is in charge of the maintenance of outdoor recreational amenities,
so we need to get our related recommendations to that board early in the process.
Discussion and Action Items for Next Meeting, Monday December 27
• Goal setting and budget ideas
• Department updates
• Recreation and Senior Services updates
• Golf Course update, RFP information
• Board updates
Adjourn — The meeting was adjourned at 7:36.
Motion: Lisa Norgard
Second: Gene Kutscher
