<br />Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />March 5, 2009 <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />Suggestions include articles in newspapers and on the City website to raise <br />public awareness of the need for tree preservation; as well as information about <br />planting new trees of appropriate species and in proper locations. <br /> <br />Draft Tree Protection Ordinance - Discussion indicated that guidelines are <br />preferred rather than a formal ordinance. Chris suggested involving Planning <br />Board in a meeting with himself, Joe and Dean. Theresa suggested that tree <br />protection information and guidelines should be included with the permit <br />application packet, as part of the planning process. ISA (the International <br />Society of Arboriculture) may have information which can be incorporated into a <br />set of guidelines; Chris will research for April meeting. Chris also plans to <br />request input and review from nearby communities with similar tree preservation <br />Issues. <br /> <br />John Breaux Memorial - Suggestions for memorials are being solicited from the <br />public and City boards, compiled by Meredyth Muth, and due by the end of <br />March. Theresa offered to be the liaison to communicate HFAB's suggestions to <br />Meredyth. <br /> <br />Arboretum -- Tree identification sign proofs will be arriving soon for Chris to <br />approve, signs will be installed before Arbor Day. <br />Western Proscapes has been hired to maintain the Xeric Garden. Theresa <br />suggested that when replacement plants are purchased, some changes should <br />be made in the varieties selected (which means signs will have to be changed for <br />correct identification.) <br /> <br />HFAB Section on City website - Tree protection information will be added <br />soon. <br /> <br />Library Presentations -- Chris will contact Jim Ord regarding a tree <br />presentation at the Library. <br /> <br />Adjourn - The meeting was adjourned at 8: 15 pm. <br />
