The home is in a style particularly associated with
Louisville and represents the built environment of the coal miners, so it may be culturally
significant to Louisville. A stay was placed on the demolition permit request and a public
hearing was scheduled for April 20.

Assessor's records state the home was built in 1900 and research shows that the house
was very likely constructed in the period of 1900-1906. There were numerous owners of
the home between 1906 and 1933; most of these residents held jobs typical to small
towns at the time including working at local mercantile stores, a truck driver, and a road
grader. The family of Darwin and Clara Johnson owned the home from 1944 08.

There is also a garage building on the site. Staff has no information on the a
building.

Staff recommendation: Given the architectural integrity of the site st f recommends
the HPC place a 180-day stay on the permit that would expire on Sept
and try to work with the applicant to maintain the fayade of the home an uild an
addition on the rear thus maintaining the historic characte the street facing fayade.

Staff recommends the permit on the garage be rei
the age or history of the building.

ve no information on

Whiteman reminded members of the criteria to be r discussion. H are to build a home that will compliment the character of the
area. He noted that home has asbestos in it, so it may be more economical to
re the home tha abate the asbestos.
