SIMPLE WAYS TO SAVE WATER

Colorado is an arid place with little extra water to spare.
With that in mind, here are some simple ways to save
water in and around your home.
Stop the leaks - Check your indoor water
using appliances and irrigation system for
leaks.
Replace your old toilets - If your home was
built before 1992 and the toilets have never
been replaced, it is very likely that you do
efficient 1.6 gallon toilet.
Old toilets are the largest users of water inside your home.
Replace your clothes washer - Energy Star"M rated washers that
also have a Water Factor at or lower than 95, use 35-50% less
water and 50% less energy per load.
Plant appropriate plants in your yard with property irrigation
- Consider the trend towards Xeriscape"M and a more natural
landscape or wildscape.
Water only what your plants need - Most water is wasted in
your garden by watering when you plants do not need the wa-
ter or by not maintaining the irrigation system.
efficient washers are eligibile for the
City's water conservation rebate. Visit www.1ouisvilleco.org for
program details.
For additional water conservation information, please visit
www.h20use.org.

Biking to work in Colorado is a tradition. Bike to
Work Day is celebrated in many communities but
our region's event is the largest in the state.
There are a lot of great reasons to bike to work:
It's a great way to fit exercise into your day;
Fewer cars on the road means less congestion
on roads and pollution in the air;
Cycling energizes you to start your day and
de-stresses you afterwards so you arrive at
work and home feeling refreshed;
You save a lot of money on gas and
maintenance for your car; and
You might surprise yourself by loving it.
For additional information or to register to participate,
City of Louisville is host-
ing a breakfast station at the Recreation Center on Bike to
Work Day. Stop by on your way to work.

A PHOTO FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE HISTORICAL MUSEUM

The Louisville Center for the Arts building at
801 Grant Avenue was originally constructed
circa 1903 to be a school for Louisville's first and sec-
undated photo from the early 1900s
shows thirty-seven schoolchildren with their teacher in
front of the school. In this photo, one can take a look
just inside the front doors of the school. Unfortunately,
there are no photos in the collection of the Historical
Museum that reveal what the interior looked like when
it was a school.
In 1973-74, the structures associated with Memory
Square Pool were added to the north side of the
This building is owned by the
City of Louisville and it is on the Louisville Register of
Historic Places.

To see this and other great historic photos and archives of Louisville, please visit the Historical Museum, 1001 Main Street,
Thursday and the first Saturday of each month, 10 AM - 3 PM.
